Corneal Specialist

Overview

Cornea specialists at City Eye Hospital provide advanced medical and surgical treatment of all conditions and disorders of the cornea

The cornea is the transparent outer layer that covers the front of the eye, which together with the sclera (the thick, white part of your eye) and the conjunctiva (thin tissue that covers the sclera) protects your eye from damage. The eyelids function to protect these surface structures of your eye and to keep them moist each time you blink.

CORNEAL CONDITIONS

Some of the common cornea conditions we treat at City Eye Hospital include:

corneal abrasions (a scratch that can cause a lot of pain, redness, light sensitivity, tearing and lid swelling)
keratoconus (the normally round cornea becomes thinned, distorted and irregular, resulting in distorted vision)
dry eye (reduced tear production or tear quality)
recurrent corneal erosion (episodes of eye pain often in the middle of the night or upon waking up)
corneal dystrophies (a dystrophy is an inherited condition, which can occur early in life or much later)
conjunctivitis (an inflammation of the clear skin that covers the white part of the eye and the inside surface of the eyelids)
